"The Ottoman legacy has entered twenty-first century Slovak literature through the poet and short story writer Agda Bavi Pain (the pseudonym of Agbar Baba Pan), whose father is Turkish; on the back cover of his first collection, Pain claims to be ‘the descendant of Turkish settlers following the Ottoman invasions in the seventeenth century’.58 Even in a post-socialist, postmodern context, from an author of partly Turkish origin, the historical Slovak links with the Ottomans are reinterpreted to create a fictionalized past.
